Guerin boys win sixth straight game

Guerin Catholic’s boys basketball team kept its win streak going on Thursday, beating Lapel 56-40 at the Bulldogs’ gym.
The Golden Eagles led 17-12 after the first quarter, then turned up the defense in the second period, allowing Lapel only four points. As a result, Guerin led 31-16 at halftime and held its advantage steady in the second half.
Bernie McGuinness scored 23 points for the Golden Eagles, followed by Matthew Gillis with 11. McGuinness came close to a double-double with nine rebounds, while Cameron Weitzel collected six rebounds.
Guerin Catholic had 18 team assists. Gillis dished out six, while Joseph Bobilya and McGuinness both handed out four.
The Golden Eagles, winners of six straight, are 8-2 and play Saturday at Lebanon.
