Carmel opened its season Friday with a 34-10 victory over Homestead at Carmel Stadium.

The Spartans led 3-0 after one quarter, but the Greyhounds blasted off for 17 points in the second period. Lukas Krishtanmoorthy got Carmel on the board with a 21-yard field goal, then Ozzy Pollard later caught a 26-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Coellner to push Carmel ahead 10-3.

The Greyhounds went ahead 17-3 with one second left in the first half after Nate Williams caught a short throw from Coellner. Krishtanmoorthy made both extra-point kicks. Carmel’s defense got involved in the third quarter, when Drew Cannon took a 30-yard interception return in for a pick six. Krishtanmoorthy made a 25-yard field goal later in the period and the Hounds led 27-3.

After a Homestead score, Andrew Pemberton went 53 yards to the end zone for the final touchdown of the game. Krishtanmoorthy made the extra-point kick, putting him 4-for-4 for the game.

Pemberton rushed for 108 yards, while Coellner completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 113 yards. Jacob Bellin had four of those receptions.

Carmel travels to Westfield next Friday.
