Carmel opened its season with a split of two road games early this week.
On Monday, the Greyhounds sailed past Brebeuf Jesuit 9-1. Carmel scored two runs in the top of the first inning: Brayden Lentz hit a solo home run, then Christian Williams scored on a wild pitch after getting on base with a triple.
The Greyhounds scored in each of the last three innings, starting with Alex Brooks’ two-run double in the fifth. In the sixth inning, Logan Urbanowski scored on an error, then Jackson Adams doubled in Williams. Drew Kelly’s line drive scored Adams, then Jared Greene scored to give Carmel and 8-0 lead.
Brebeuf hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth for its lone run. JD Rogers scored the Greyhounds’ final run of the game in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch.
Williams finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Drew Olssen pitched four innings for the win, striking out five and allowing one hit.
On Tuesday, Carmel lost at Zionsville 4-3. The Eagles led 4-0 after five innings. The Greyhounds began a comeback in the sixth inning, with Olssen scoring on a fielder’s choice, then Rogers stole home. In the seventh inning, Brooks scored on an error, but Zionsville would allow no more runs.
Adams had two hits for the ‘Hounds. Aiden Bradbury tossed six strikeouts in three innings.
Carmel is 1-1 and plays at Louisville Ballard next Thursday.
