Greyhounds hold off Zionsville, 56-50

Carmel began its second week as No. 1 in the ICGSA Class 4A girls basketball poll with a hard-fought win at Zionsville Tuesday, 56-50.
The Greyhounds led 14-7 after the first quarter, with Emily Roper scoring five of those points. Carmel extended its lead to 29-17 by halftime. Kate Clarke had a solid second quarter, throwing in two 3-pointers on her way to 12 points.
The ‘Hounds led 41-25 after three periods, with Clarke making two more triples. The Eagles made a comeback bid in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 points, but Carmel was able to hold them off. Free throw shooting helped, as the Greyhounds were 8-of-8 from the line in the fourth.
Clarke led Carmel with 25 points, including four 3s. Roper added eight points to go with eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Bridget Dunn also had eight points, while Evan Spidel collected three rebounds. Clarke made four steals.
The Greyhounds are 3-0 and play again next Tuesday at Noblesville.
