Greyhounds hold off North Central

The Carmel girls basketball team held off a comeback by host North Central last Friday, getting a 49-45 victory in its lone game of the week.

The Greyhounds led 12-5 after one quarter, then pulled further ahead in the second period, leading 31-16 at halftime. The Panthers cut Carmel’s lead to 39-33 after three quarters, but the ‘Hounds were able to hold on in the fourth.

Izzy Shepherd scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Izabella Ramsey and Mallory Bourquein both added nine points. Mackenzie Woods led the rebounds with nine, followed by six for Madison Wallace, five for Sydney Bonds and four for Lauren Perry. Bourquein dished out five assists, with Woods and Wallace each handing out four.

The ‘Hounds are 6-5 for the season and play Saturday at the Walt Raines Classic at Franklin Community. Carmel takes on Jennings County in the first game at 10 a.m., with the Grizzly Cubs hosting South Bend Washington at noon. The consolation game is set for 4 p.m. and the championship game tips off at 6 p.m.
