Carmel finished its season with a win on Friday, beating Lawrence Central 14-0 in a Metropolitan Conference game at the Bears’ field.
The Class 6A No. 3 Greyhounds scored both of their touchdowns in the first half. Ethan Hall caught a 20-yard pass from Zachary Osborne midway through the first quarter for the first score. Osborne then punched the ball in from the one-yard line during the middle of the second quarter. Ben Sponsler made both extra-point kicks.
Osborned had an efficent night, connecting on 10 of his 19 pass attempts. Desmond Duffy and Jaedon King each had four receptions. Nick Beidl led the rushing with 55 yards.
Carmel finished 6-1 in MIC play, good for second place in the conference behind Center Grove. The Trojans were 7-0 in the MIC; having already clinched the unbeaten conference season last week against Lawrence North. Center Grove, the No. 1-ranked 6A team, played 5A No. 1 Cathedral on Friday, winning 14-6 to complete a 9-0 regular season campaign.
The Greyhounds are 8-1 overall, having won six games in a row, and will join the other 6A teams in having a bye week next week as sectionals begin. Carmel travels to Avon Sept. 29 to play in the semi-finals of Sectional 5.
