Former Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels has endorsed Danny Lopez for State Representative, the campaign announced Monday.

“Danny was a 5-star recruit for our state administration and has gone on to excel in a series of important roles ever since,” Daniels said. “His leadership in protecting and promoting the civil rights of Hoosiers more than lived up to my hopes in asking him to take the job and demonstrated the constructive, collaborative approach he’ll apply to building a steadily better future for his district and the entire state.”

Lopez said he is happy to have earned Daniels’ support.

“Ask any Hoosier and they will undoubtedly note two eras in Indiana, Before Mitch and After Mitch, and the transformation he led has been the foundation for so many of our bold achievement over the last 20 years,” Lopez said. “I am proud to have earned his support and endorsement, and I look forward to working collaboratively, as Mitch did, on the big ideas that will continue making our state stronger.”

Daniels, who led Indiana from 2004 to 2012 as the state’s 49th governor, ushered in an era of bold reform, common-sense pragmatism, and responsible government that has set Indiana apart from competitor states. His focus on reimagining the state’s tax climate, economic development strategy, and education system made him one of the most respected governors in the country, and the critical steps forward Indiana took during his eight years paved the way for the gains we have enjoyed ever since.

Daniels joins an impressive list of leaders and organizations endorsing Lopez so far in this campaign, including campaign co-chairs Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam and Westfield Mayor Scott Willis, Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen, the Indiana Fraternal Order of Police, the Indiana State State Police Alliance, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Realtors Association, the Indy Chamber, the Indiana Farm Bureau, the One Zone Chamber of Commerce, and the NFIB. More endorsement announcements will be made in the weeks to come.
