Publisher’s Perspective
When a pipe is leaking in your ceiling, my guess is your first thought wouldn’t be to call local Noblesville attorney Ray Adler to stop the drip, but that’s what the Jellison family did, and the outcome was awesome.
Allow me to explain why I called Ray to patch the leaky pipe.
My son Zack is a college student living in Muncie. Zack rents a house with two other young men originally from Westfield. Zack and his roommates live on the ground floor of the house, and the upstairs is a separate rental.
The story begins with me receiving a text from Zack that said water was pouring out of his ceiling from what appeared to be the shower drain in the upstairs apartment.
I’m one of those parents who wants to jump in and fix things for my kid when they go wrong; however, Zack said he had already contacted the landlord and the property management company. So, my thought was, let this be a learning experience for Zack.
Fast forward 12 days later. I get a video from Zack that showed a steady stream water running out of a two-foot hole in the ceiling directly above his bed. His comment was “Still no help from the landlord.”
After repeated phone calls and text messages to the landlord and management company expressing our concern for health violations and tenant rights – which I’m pretty sure someone else’s shower funk dripping onto Zack’s bed qualified for both – I get told, “Mr. Jellison you are not on the lease, so we are no longer obligated to talk to you. Goodbye.”
OK, here is the fun part … my phone call to Ray Adler.
I told Ray about the problem and he was quick to jump on it. Just a few short hours later, Ray sent me an email that said, “The problem will be fixed today.” And it was. No more leaky ceiling. Ray fixed it with a phone call.
I doubt you’ll see Ray Adler walking around the courthouse square with pipe wrench in hand, but if you have a leaky pipe and get no help from your landlord, I suggest you give Ray a call to fix it.
