Guerin Catholic girls basketball coach Marc Quaranta likes what he sees from this year’s Golden Eagles team, as he saw most of them play last year.
“We have a good group coming back,” said Quaranta.
All of the players returning for Guerin have some form of experience. That includes three seniors, each of whom helped out the team in her own way. Olivia Labus, last year’s second-leading scorer and top rebounder for GC, returns 10.1 points and 7.0 boards per game. Delaney Klee pulled 3.5 rebounds per game, while Aliyah Dorsey added 3.0 points per contest.
“Our seniors were all contributors, and mostly starters, last year and will add experience to the team.
Juniors make up a majority of the Guerin Catholic varsity roster, with five players in that class. That includes Kathryn Loso (7.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.8 steals) and Katie Koger (5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.6 assists).
Other returning juniors are Halley Buehler, Mia Thompson and Hannah Weitzel. Sophomores Megan Cobb, Natalie Fernandez and Caitlyn Sharpe also return after getting varsity playing time last year as freshmen.
“Our juniors are a strong group,” said Quaranta. “And we have good young players. Another year together, and I think this group will be able to compete with some of the best teams on our schedule. We play together and we play hard, so we will be right there toward the end of games.”
The Golden Eagles open their season Saturday at University.
