The Noblesville boys golf team began its season Saturday at the Yorktown Invitational, which took place at a rainy Players Club.
The Millers performed in fine fashion, placing third with a team score of 329 in a close battle. The host Tigers won the tournament with a 327, while Franklin Community was the runner-up with a 328.
Will Perkins carded a 77 for Noblesville, making three birdies in his round. Brady Mangin’s round of 79 included two birdies. Alex Peck had three birdies, while Drew Decker and Gavin Hancock each made one.
“Today was the first varsity experience for four of our five players,” said Millers coach Gary Sewell. “So to finish third is quite an accomplishment for these kids.”
“It was amazing the back nine that junior Will Perkins played,” said Sewell. “After finishing five over on the front Will played the back nine at even par.” Sewell said that in the weather conditions Noblesville faced, “that was great to see.” The coach also credited the freshman Mangin with playing “excellent” in his first varsity tournament.
Guerin Catholic placed fourth at the event, carding a 333. Freshman Leo Wessel placed third as an individual with a score of 75, making three birdies along the way. Connor McNeely drained one birdie on his way to a 76. Scott Smith had one birdie as well.
