Golf: ‘Hounds win first North vs. South Cup

The Carmel boys golf team won the inaugural North vs. South Cup on Tuesday, beating Center Grove 145-154 in a dual meet at The Fort Golf Resort in Lawrence.
Greyhounds senior Patrick Michael and Owen Sander were co-medalists at the meet, with both carding a two-under par 34. Joe Armfield was next with a 37. Mason Price and Kent Fujita both had 40s while Austin Kent scored a 41.
Carmel will play at the State Preview meet Saturday at Prairie View.

Westfield had its own “preview meet” at Prairie View on Wednesday, as the Shamrocks competed in a three-team 18-hole meet with Zionsville and Cathedral.
Westfield won with a score of 300, followed by the Eagles with 310 and the Irish with 320. Freshman Jake Cesare led the way for the ‘Rocks with a two-under par 70, which included a 32 on the back nine. Nolan Hall scored a 74. He was followed by Will Harvey 77, Cam Kooi 79, Alec Cesare 79 and Isaac Lutz 83.
The Shamrocks will be back at Prairie View on Saturday for the State Preview meet.

Westfield’s junior varsity team won a three-team meet with Brownsburg and Zionsville Wednesday.
The Shamrocks scored 147 to the Eagles’ 157 and the Bulldogs’ 192. Brennan Decker scored a one-under par 34 for medalist honors. Other scores were Matt Shull 37, Jack Harris 37, Kaden Mendler 39, Clark Schwartz 39 and Cohen Steil 41.
