Girls golf sectionals are only eight days away, and several Hamilton County teams traveled to Harbour Trees on Saturday to get in one last big tournament before the post-season.
That tournament was Noblesville’s Miller Invitational. Carmel was the team winner, carding a 309 in order to win the unique sailboat shaped trophy that was presented to the champions. Hamilton Southeastern was the runner-up, totaling a 314.
The Greyhounds had the meet medalist, Michaela Headlee. She finished with a two-under par 69, making five birdies in her round.
“I played really solid,” said Headlee. “I didn’t make many mistakes. I told myself when I made mistakes, I’d come back from them and I did at the end of my round.”
Ava Hedrick finished in the top 10, as her 78 was good for eighth place. Hedrick made two birdies. Claire Swathwood drained three birdies and Ava Nguyen made one.
“They played great,” said Carmel coach Kelly Kluesner. “We had a challenging day with the wind. But I think they navigated it really well. We have a couple things that we’ll want to work on before the state tournament, but it’s always nice to finish the season with a win.”
The Royals were led by Yanah Rolston, who carded a 74 to take third place. Rolston had one birdie in her round. Cora Zink’s 77 tied her for sixth place; she collected three birdies. Noblesville fielded two teams at the event, with the Noblesville Black team taking third by carding a 320. Sophi Stutz and Caroline Whallon both had 76s, tying them for fourth place. Whallon made two birdies and Stutz had one birdie. Jordan Adam also made one birdie.
