Golf: Golden Eagles win tough county meet

The Guerin Catholic boys golf team won a very competitive Hamilton County meet Friday at Pebble Brook Golf Course.
The Golden Eagles scored a 296 to claim the team trophy, giving them a second total under 300 for this week. Guerin Catholic carded a 295 to win the Carmel Invitational Tuesday at Woodland Country Club.
Jacob Modleski led the Golden Eagles with a 72, including a 34 on the back nine and one birdie. Connor McNeely drained two birdies during his round of 73, while Leo Wessel had three birdies while scoring a 75. Zach Theime carded a 76 and made an eagle on the 18th hole. Scotty Smith’s 77 included two birdies.
Westfield was the runner-up for the meet, totaling a 303. The Shamrocks were winners of the Hoosier Crossroads Conference meet Monday at Bear Slide with a score of 299, putting together another solid score for the week.
Will Harvey carded a 75, while Cam Kooi, Jake Cesare and Nolan Hall all added 76s. Hall made three birdies, followed by two for Cesare and one each for Harvey and Kooi. Alec Cesare scored 79, with one birdie.
Hamilton Southeastern came in third by scoring a 304. Lane Zedrick was the low man for the Royals with a 73, including three birdies. Cole Starnes scored 75, while Tyler Lacy and Tyler Marcinko both posted 78s; all three made one birdie.
Carmel was right next in line with a 305, coming in fourth. Owen Sander scored a 73 for the Greyhounds, a round that contained two birdies. Kent Fujita added a 76, with one birdie, followed by Austin Kent and Patrick Michael with 78s. Kent made an eagle on the first hole along with two birdies, while Michael drained one birdie.
Fishers placed fifth as a team with a 314. The Tigers had the individual medalist in Connor McMillan, who scored a 71 and also led the birdie count with four. Eli Toon and Owen Munkholm both had one birdie.
Noblesville took sixth with a 319. Will Perkins and Wyatt Fazi both had 78s for the Millers, including one birdie each. Drew Decker also made a birdie.
Hamilton Heights totaled a 330, placing seventh. Ethan Millsaps scored a 76, draining three birdies along the way. Garrett James and Lance Jones both had one birdie.
Sheridan scored a 433. Grant Ferren led the Blackhawks with a 102.
