Guerin Catholic came back in the second half to edge out Roncalli 56-54 Friday at the Eagles Nest in the Golden Eagles’ first Circle City Conference game of the season.
The Rebels jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter and were up 21-8 at one point during the second. Guerin outscored Roncalli in each of the next three periods, slowly cutting the Rebels’ lead to 30-23 by halftime, then 46-43 after three quarters. The Golden Eagles held the Rebels to eight points in the fourth period.
Bernie McGuinness scored 20 points, including a 6-of-6 performance from the free throw line. Joseph Bobilya added 15 points and Cameron Weitzel hit four 3-pointers for 12 points. McGuinness collected six rebounds and Weitzel pulled five. Bobilya handed out four assists.
Guerin Catholic is 2-1 and hosts Hamilton Heights tonight.
