Brebeuf Jesuit road tripped from the northwest side of Indianapolis to Noblesville for a key Circle City Conference doubleheader with Guerin Catholic.
The girls went first, and the Golden Eagles held on for a 41-39 victory in what was also their Senior Night game. The Braves led 17-13 after one quarter, but Guerin Catholic came back to outscore Brebeuf in the next three periods.
The Golden Eagles cut the Braves’ lead to 22-21 by halftime, then had the game tied at 30-30 after three quarters. Annie Murphy scored five points in the fourth to help Guerin Catholic get the victory.
All eight players who took the floor for the Golden Eagles scored at least two points. Natalie Fernandez led with 12 points, including six in the first period. Murphy finished with nine points.
The boys game was also a tight game throughout as the Braves and Golden Eagles duked it out in a low-scoring affair, but it was Brebeuf edging Guerin in a 38-35 win on Friday night.
The Braves were able to jump out to a 12-9 lead after one quarter. Guerin held tough defensively in the second, only allowing four points to even up the score at halftime 16-16.
Brebeuf grabbed a one-point advantage through three 26-25 and also edged out the host Golden Eagles 12-10 in the fourth to hold on for a 38-35 road victory.
The visiting Braves (9-5, 1-0 CCC) were led by Merrick Macaluso’s double-double of a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Guerin Catholic (9-6, 2-2 CCC) was led by Robert Sorensen’s 14 points, shooting 3 out of 6 from three-point range. Bryson Cardinal also had a solid night with nine and eight boards. Dylan Murans added five.
The Golden Eagles finished conference play 2-3 and are 8-12 overall, and host Decatur Central on Tuesday. The Guerin Catholic boys also play on Tuesday, at Liberty Christian.
