Guerin Catholic dominated Lafayette Central Catholic 40-7 Friday at the Knights’ field, which means the Golden Eagles will keep the Bishop’s Cup for another year.
Guerin led 27-0 at halftime. Dylan Crossen scored GC’s first touchdown on a 28-yard run, then Christian Gelov and Josh Osborn teamed up for a 19-yard passing score. Nathan Friedman made the extra point kick after the second TD.
In the second period, Crossen struck again, this time running in from 10 yards with 1:10 left in the half. Gelov then got his second touchdown of the night seconds later, sending a three-yard pass to Nick Demas. Crossen then ran in a two-point conversion attempt.
Crossen scored again late in the third quarter on a five-yard run, and Cam Murray completed the Golden Eagles’ scoring with a 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth. Crossen totaled 144 yards on 22 carries, including the three TDs, while Murray totaled 67 yards in 11 rushes.
Gelov completed seven of 18 passes for 111 yards. Bernie McGuinness caught three of those receptions, totaling 60 yards.
The Bishop’s Cup victory marked Guerin Catholic’s first win of this season. The Golden Eagles are 1-1 and return home next Friday to take on Heritage Christian in their first Circle City Conference game of the year.
