Guerin Catholic began Circle City Conference play with an easy 10-0 win at Bishop Chatard on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles got on the board right away, with a run in the top of the first inning. Bennett Ely singled on to base, moved to second on Nate Bingman’s line drive, then was sent home by a Max Engelking hit. Gavin Morrow scored Guerin’s second run in the second inning, drawing a walk, then running home on Keenan Taylor’s triple.
In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles added three more runs. Bingman doubled in Taylor, Ely scored after Engelking was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bingman got home on a wild pitch.
Guerin Catholic sprinted to the finish line with five runs in the seventh inning. Bingman hit another double, and was subsequently doubled home by Luke Godfrey. Braden Reel hit a single to score Dominic Ferrucci (running for Godfrey) and Engelking, who had again been hit by a pitch. Later, Wes Gingerich cracked a triple into center field, and was quickly batted in by Taylor.
Taylor had an exceptional game, batting 4-for-5 at the plate. Bingman finished 3-for-5.
Meanwhile, Matt Parenteau pitched an outstanding game. He went the distance, striking out four but allowing only three hits, one hit batsman and no walks. Parenteau didn’t allow anyone on base in the final three innings.
The Golden Eagles are 2-0 and will return home to host Bishop Chatard at 5:30 p.m. today to complete the conference series.
