Golden Eagles girls stun Shelbyville

Guerin Catholic’s girls basketball team got a nice win at Shelbyville on Friday, by the score of 72-67.
The Golden Eagles led 17-13 after the first quarter, but the Golden Bears came back to lead 46-45 after three periods. Guerin Catholic then trailed by as much as seven points late in the fourth, but stepped it up to pull out the win.
Nicole Cunningham poured in 29 points, including four 3-pointers. Carly Wilson and Paige Bennett both added 10 points.
“We were able to start and end the game with two of our most productive quarters of the season,” said GC coach Jeff Buckner. “Nicole Cunningham was very good on the offensive end for us from a point production standpoint. Claire and Carly did a great job getting us in the right positions offensively to take advantage of what they were giving us. The one thing we have said all year is that these girls never give up and tonight that was huge for us.”
Guerin Catholic is 3-9 and will play at the Tipton Lady Devils Holiday Tournament next Friday, taking on Jennings County at 11 a.m. and Tri-Central at 2:30 p.m.
