Guerin Catholic’s basketball teams traveled to Brebeuf Jesuit Friday for a Circle City Conference doubleheader, and came home with two victories.
First, the Golden Eagles girls team defeated the Braves 46-35. Guerin Catholic slowly built a lead during the first half, going up 12-10 after one quarter and 25-20 at halftime. Kathryn Loso scored nine points during that half, with Katie Koger adding six.
The Golden Eagles then pulled away in the third period, holding Brebeuf to five points. Guerin held a 36-25 advantage after three quarters, and held that margin in the fourth.
Loso led the Golden Eagles with 24 points, including an 8-of-10 effort from the free-throw line. Koger added nine points; both she and Loso made two 3-pointers in the game.
The Guerin Catholic boys followed that up with a 58-52 win over Brebeuf, whose boys team is ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Class 3A poll. The Braves held an early lead in this back-and-forth contest, going up 19-16 by the end of the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles came back to lead 28-27 at halftime, but Brebeuf pulled in front 41-38 after three periods. Guerin Catholic then powered through the fourth quarter, at one point leading 58-49 late in the period.
Three Golden Eagles players reached double figures. Will Grissom scored 16 points and also led the rebounds with six. Lucas Parker added 12 points, while Robert Sorensen scored 10 points and dished out four assists.
The Guerin Catholic girls are 2-2 in conference play and 11-8 overall. Guerin Catholic finishes the CCC season this afternoon when it plays at Bishop Chatard.
The Golden Eagles boys team is also 2-2 in the league and 8-6 overall. Guerin Catholic’s boys host Liberty Christian on Tuesday.
