Guerin Catholic dropped its Class 3A Sectional 28 semi-final game at Western Boone Friday, 23-6.
Neither team scored in the first quarter, with Golden Eagles coach saying neither team “could do much early. We certainly had a couple wasted opportunities.”
The Stars scored 17 points in the second period on a field goal and two touchdowns, and that would carry WeBo through the second half.
“We moved the ball pretty decent in the first half, we just stalled out at critical times,” said Dilley. “We had some opportunities, we just didn’t capitalize.”
Ryan Zimmerman scored Guerin Catholic’s lone touchdown on a one-yard run in the third quarter.
The Golden Eagles finished their season 3-8, although they won two consecutive games before going up against Western Boone.
“I give the seniors a ton of credit for keeping the team moving in the right direction,” said Dilley. “We got better as the season went on. I think that says a lot about the seniors and their leadership.”
