Golden Eagles fall to CCC champ Trojans

Guerin Catholic hosted one of the top teams in Class 3A for its Homecoming game Friday, and Bishop Chatard certainly played like a top team.
The second-ranked Trojans beat the 3A No. 7 Golden Eagles 35-7 in a Circle City Conference game at the Eagles Nest. Chatard led 7-0 after the first quarter after scoring on a short pass, then added two more touchdowns in the second period within a span of 58 seconds; the second score was on a 62-yard run.
The Trojans put two more touchdowns on the board in the third quarter, leading 35-0 going into the fourth. Guerin Catholic scored with 2:41 left in the game, as Christian Gelov threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Hall. Luke Etchison made the extra-point kick.
Gelov finished the game 11-of-23, throwing for 88 yards. Bernie McGuinness had four catches, with Dominic Ferrucci getting three receptions. Gus Baumgartner led the rushing with 68 yards in 20 trips.
With the victory, the Trojans clinched an undefeated conference championship, going 3-0 in the league. The Golden Eagles fell to 0-2 in the conference and are 4-2 overall. Friday’s game was the beginning of a three-week homestand for Guerin Catholic, as it hosts Pontiac (Mich.) Notre Dame next Friday.
