Guerin Catholic finally returned to action Friday night after two weeks of not playing, hosting Brebeuf Jesuit at the Eagles Nest.
It was a battle between the two teams that are tied for No. 5 in the Class 3A coaches poll, and the Braves got the upper hand, beating the Golden Eagles 28-7. The game was also the first one for Guerin Catholic in Circle City Conference play this season.
Brebeuf scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, both of which were pass plays from Drake Hagerman to Brendan Petrie. The first one was an 85-yard reception, the second was 25 yards, and it put the Braves up 12-0.
The Golden Eagles scored their touchdown in the second quarter. Jagger Albert made a five-yard rush into the end zone, then Addison Lushin followed it up with a successful extra-point kick.
That got Guerin within 12-7, but it would not score again. Hagerman and Petrie connected for a 20-yard passing touchdown late in the second, then Brebeuf added 10 more points in the third on a short run by Hagerman and a field goal.
Albert finished the game with 92 yards in 32 carries. Golden Eagles quarterback Sam Miller completed 7 of 17 passes for 93 yards, with Elijah Edwards making three of those receptions.
Guerin Catholic is 1-1 for the season and will go on the road next Friday to play Roncalli in another Circle City Conference game.
