Guerin Catholic reached the final of the Class 3A Sectional 24 at Yorktown on Monday, easily winning a semi-final game over Delta before falling in the championship game to New Castle, finishing its season 20-10.
The Golden Eagles beat Delta 14-4 in six innings. Guerin Catholic took control of the game by scoring five runs in the bottom of the third inning, including RBI singles from Bryson Dorsey and AJ Nunley. Davis Wagner blasted a two-run doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, giving him four RBIs for the game.
Wagner was 3-for-4 at the plate. Clay Patton scored three runs, as did Will Fremion, who got the game-ending score in the sixth inning after Wagner reached on error. Clay Patton pitched four innings, striking out six.
Guerin Catholic dropped the final to New Castle 3-2. The Golden Eagles scored in the top of the first inning when Clay Patton doubled in Anthony Ferrucci. But the Trojans got two runs in the bottom of the first and held the lead from there, adding another run in the third inning. Guerin’s second run came in the fourth inning when AJ Nunley singled Caden Ratcliff home.
Patton and Nunley both had two hits. Wagner pitched a complete game, striking out four.
