The Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel offers the following opportunities for educational experiences.
Brrrr! Think warm thoughts about summer camps
One way to escape the chilly winter blues is to think about fun and enriching activities our kids can enjoy when the weather becomes more reasonable. Registration is underway now for two arts-based summer camps here at Allied Solutions Center.
Jungle Jams is a weeklong, animal-themed day camp that introduces kids ages 5 to 7 to basic musical concepts through games and activities that also promote positive character qualities. Register now for this year’s Jungle Jams camp, scheduled July 21 to 25. Space is limited.
The Prism Project at the Center, now in its third season, is a monthlong performing arts day camp for children and young adults with a range of physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities. With thoughtful one-to-one support and guidance, the campers develop and present an original stage production designed around their unique talents and abilities. Register now for the 2025 Prism Project camp, running May 28 to June 20 with a public performance June 22.
By the way, the Prism Project depends on volunteer Buddies to create a supportive environment for the performers. Volunteering is an especially rewarding and valuable experience for high school and college students considering careers that involve people with disabilities. Luminaries to learn about black composers
The next installment of the Luminaries speaker series – taking place Tuesday, Jan. 28 – features local musicians Trevor Conerly (saxophone) and Andrew Brown (piano) performing and discussing the works of black composers. Tickets are just $10 for the 2 p.m. presentation, “The Music and Lives of African American Classical Composers.”
Don Was on tap for next JazzTalk
He’s the president of Blue Note Records, producer for such artists as Wayne Shorter and the Rolling Stones, and bassist/bandleader of the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, playing the Palladium on Feb. 28. Don Was is also the guest for the Feb. 10 episode of JazzTalk, the online interview show hosted by veteran jazz musician and educator Todd Williams. Music fans can tune in free of charge and even pose their own questions for Mr. Was. Register here for the next JazzTalk.
Children’s performance to feature African traditions
Our February Peanut Butter & Jam performance for kids ages 1 to 7 features the Indianapolis-based Epiphany Dance Collective, which celebrates and preserves the dance and drumming traditions of West Africa. The group will perform at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in the Studio Theater, and kids and parents alike will be invited to join in and learn a few steps. Get your tickets now for PB&J with Epiphany Dance Collective.
