Girls tennis sectionals begin today, with Carmel and Fishers hosting four-team events.
At Carmel, the No. 1-ranked Greyhounds will take on Westfield, while No. 10 Guerin Catholic plays University. Both semi-final matches are set to begin at 4:15 p.m. at Carmel’s Todd Witsken Tennis Center. Today’s winners advance to the championship match, which will be played on Thursday.
Over at the Tigers’ courts, Noblesville plays No. 12 Hamilton Southeastern in one semi-final, with Fishers taking on Hamilton Heights in the other dual. Play begins at 4:30 p.m., with the winners moving on to the championship, which will take place on Friday.
In final regular-season meets on Monday:
Westfield beat Lapel 4-1. Shamrock winners were No. 1 singles Laura Moore 6-2, 6-1, No. 3 Maddie Heilmann 6-2, 6-4; No. 1 doubles Emma Clary and Maya Majors 6-1, 6-3 and No. 2 doubles Madison Hagerty and Morgan Clary 6-3, 6-3.
Hamilton Heights fell to Eastern 3-2. The Huskies got wins from both their doubles teams, and also took time to honor senior No. 1 singles player Lauryn Martin and manager Grant Lamkin.
The Heights junior varsity team rounded out its season with a 7-1 victory. Wins on the night came from Abby Weber, Hailey VanOeveren, and Maddie Nickel in singles and Addi Gordon/Katy Beery, Sofia Scalvini/Brooke Sears, Kate Biggs/Cortney Martin, and Gwendolyn Kelley/Ellie Arrowood in doubles. The JV squad finishes its year with a stellar 11-1-1 record.
