Girls tennis: Royals pick up two wins over HCC teams

The Hamilton Southeastern girls tennis team picked up a pair of Hoosier Crossroads Conference wins to start the week.
On Monday, the 15th-ranked Royals took care of No. 13 Avon 4-1 on the road. Southeastern swept the singles matches, winning all three in straight sets. No. 1 doubles Jeorgia Templin and Taylor Cleary were also victorious in straight sets.
“This was a big win for us as we knew Avon was a tough team, and they always play well at their courts,” said Royals coach Kirk Webber. “It feels good to get a conference road win. Our girls are starting to find their groove.”
Southeastern continued that groove on Tuesday, sweeping No. 17 Franklin Central in a home meet. The Royals only dropped two games in the singles matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 win from No. 3 Tea Vrkic. No. 1 Audrey De Witt and No. 2 Adalyn De Witt got 6-0, 6-1 victories. In doubles, Templin and Cleary won the No. 1 match in three sets, with No. 2 Nikki Hite and Misha Bukkasagaram winning in straight sets.

Noblesville split a pair of dual matches this week.
On Monday, the Millers cruised past Lawrence Central 5-0 in a home meet at Noblesville East Middle School. Noblesville’s effort was highlighted by No. 1 singles Madi Randolph and No. 2 singles Alli Maskew avenging pre-season losses to their opponents.
On Tuesday, Noblesville dropped a 3-2 meet at Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Brownsburg. The Millers’ victories came from its doubles teams, No. 1 Alex Greer and Katelyn Decker and no. 2 Kaylee David and Sierra Leach.
“The outstanding performances tonight goes to all our doubles players,” said Noblesville coach Tim Samons.

Westfield won a Monday dual meet with Greenwood 4-1.
The Shamrocks swept the three singles matches, while No. 2 doubles Maya Raymond and Hannah Pensyl won 6-0, 6-0. Westfield is 3-3 and hosts Avon at 5 p.m. today.

Hamilton Heights dropped a pair of dual meets this week.
The Huskies fell to Western 5-0 on Monday. Heights coach Wayne Rupe said that although it wasn’t the outcome the team wanted, he credited No. 3 singles Brooke Sears and No. 1 doubles Gwen Kelley and Caitlin Hartwick with playing well.
Heights lost a Tuesday dual to Heritage Christian 4-1. Sears won the No. 3 singles match in straight sets.
“Although we lost, this match score could have very easily been 4-1 in our favor… that’s how close the match was,” said Rupe.
