Girls State Junior Championships: Three county players reach championship flight

Play continued at the Girls State Junior Championship Wednesday with second-round action at The Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers.
Angelica Pfefferkorn, an incoming senior at Guerin Catholic, rose up to second place with an even-par 72, giving her a two-day score of 149. Pfefferkorn had the best score of the second round, making four birdies along the way. She was one of three Hamilton County golfers to qualify for the championship flight, which consists of the players in the top 20 going into today’s third round.
Carmel junior-to-be Katie Kuc is in seventh place with a 154, making one birdie in her second round. Chelsea Morrow, a recent Hamilton Southeastern graduate and incoming freshman at Indiana State University, is tied for 13th place with a score of 159.
A total of 79 players are competing at the Girls State Junior Championship, and the other 59 golfers have been divided among five flights. Play begins at 8 a.m. today with the first group, with subsequent groups going off at nine-minute intervals until the top group starts at 11:54 a.m. Pfefferkorn will be in the top group, along with Nataly Munnicha of Columbus and Faith Johnson of Evansville.
