The Westfield girls soccer team scored an upset Wednesday, beating Class 3A No. 2 Hamilton Southeastern 2-1 in an all-county and Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at the Royals’ field.
The Shamrocks scored both of their goals in the first half, with Amiah Sprunger and Kate Malin both finding the back of the net.
“Each player for the Rocks stepped up and battled hard to come away with a road conference win,” said Westfield coach Hannah Eggert.
Southeastern got its goal in the second half; Tatum Coleman scored off an assist by Makenzie Loftin.
“As disappointed as we were in a loss we hope to learn from this going into our last three games and the tournament,” said HSE coach Greg Davidson.
The Shamrocks are 2-2-1 in conference play and 4-3-3 overall, and next play Saturday at 2A No. 6 Brebeuf Jesuit. The Royals dropped to 4-1 in HCC action and are 11-1-1 overall, and also go on the road Saturday to play at 3A No. 17 Mount Vernon.
Noblesville, ranked No. 1 in 3A, cruised to a 6-0 HCC and Senior Night victory Wednesday over 3A No. 9 Zionsville at the Millers’ Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.
Noblesville wasted no time getting on the board, with Ava Bramblett scoring during the third minute. Isabella Griffey provided the assist. Makenna Maloy added a goal in the 11th minute, assisted by Bramblett. Makenna Maloy put in the Millers’ third goal and Meredith Tippner scored off another Bramblett assist, giving Noblesville a 4-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, two Millers players scored their first varsity goals. Marit McLaughlin put a goal in during the 50th minute off a Maloy assist. In the 74th minute, Paige Smucker made a penalty kick to complete the Noblesville scoring.
The Millers are 4-0 in the conference and 9-0 overall. Noblesville plays another HCC game Saturday afternoon, hosting Brownsburg.
Carmel, the No. 2 team in 3A, sailed to a Metropolitan Conference win over Warren Central, 9-0 Wednesday at Murray Stadium.
The Greyhounds led 4-0 at halftime. Emily Roper and Claire Swigart both scored three goals for Carmel, with Saliyah Brady adding two goals. Megan Hamm scored direct from a corner kick. The other eight goals were assisted: Greta Heyl had two, and Annika Nelson, Sophie Shepherd, Lauren Rainbolt, Lila Simmons, Brady and Rylie Wilpolt all had one assist.
The ‘Hounds are 6-0 in MIC play and 10-1-1 overall. Carmel hosts Noblesville on Monday.
Fishers, ranked No. 14 in 3A, dropped a 2-1 HCC contest to Brownsburg on Wednesday.
The game was tied 1-1 at halftime; Sami Bird scored the Tigers’ goal off an assist by Mallory Slabaugh. The Bulldogs scored the go-ahead goal in the second half.
Fishers is 1-4-1 in conference play and 4-5-3 overall. The Tigers play at Harrison Monday.
