Girls soccer semi-state preview: Noblesville set to play Penn on Saturday

The Noblesville girls soccer team travels to Kokomo Saturday with another trip to the state finals on the line.

The Class 3A No. 2 Millers will play No. 13 Penn for the 3A north semi-state championship, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The game follows two other north semi-state contests: the 1A boys game between Bethany Christian and Covenant Christian (1 p.m.) and the 2A boys game between Concordia Lutheran and Park Tudor (scheduled for 3:30 p.m.).

The Kingsmen are 12-5-3 this season. They won the South Bend Adams sectional with victories over Michigan City 9-0 in the semifinals and Adams 2-0 in the championship. Penn won a regional semifinal over Warsaw 3-0, then won its own regional with another 3-0 victory, that one over No. 17 Valparaiso.

Senior Anika Guenther is the Kingsmen’s leading scorer with 24 goals and 14 assists. Two seniors share goalkeeper duties: Gwen Eiler has 50 saves and a 1.217 goals against average, while Janiah Juarez has 29 saves and a 0.857 GAA.

Noblesville is 17-0-2 and won its own sectional, beating Anderson 10-0 in the quarterfinals, No. 16 Mount Vernon 5-1 in the semifinals and No. 1-ranked Hamilton Southeastern 1-0 in the championship. The Millers cruised to a regional title with a 5-0 victory over Harrison and a 4-0 win over No. 8 Homestead in the final at Kokomo.

Senior Meredith Tippner is on top of the Noblesville scoring with 23 goals and 12 assists, while sophomore Delaney Stone has 12 goals and nine assists to her credit. Senior goalkeeper Bella Wyatt has made 68 saves and holds a 0.229 goals against average.
