The Hamilton Southeastern girls soccer team had a perfect Senior Night, as the Class 3A No. 1 Royals beat 3A No. 18 (and previously undefeated) Mount Vernon 7-1.
Senior Claire Wilkinson scored the first goal, off an assist by Olivia Smith. Two more seniors teamed up for the second goal: Taylor Pozzebon put in a corner kick, assisted by Ava Keaffaber. Keaffaber then scored the third goal, with Ava Marquardt assisting.
The Marauders scored their lone goal at that point, but Southeastern answered with a score by Ashley Wilson, assisted by Molly Harris. That made the score 4-1 at halftime.
The Royals opened the second half by scoring in under a minute: Layla Brown finished a one-touch volley from Keaffaber. Brown then scored another goal, this time with Wilkinson assisting. Pozzebon scored the final goal of the game, with Wilkinson again on the assist.
“Senior defenders Kaitlyn Weldy, Madison Dalton, and goalkeeper Allison Ellis were superb at defense keeping their leading scorer without a shot,” said HSE coach Greg Davidson. “Senior Brooke Satterfield was injured and could not play but her rendition of the National Anthem with assist from Claire Wilkinson on the mic as well was amazing.”
Davidson said that Player of the Game honors go to all the seniors “for their quality play and leadership this year.”
Southeastern is 9-1-1 and hosts 3A No. 20 Crown Point on Saturday.

University tied with Tipton in a Thursday away game.
The Blue Devils scored midway through the first half on a breakaway, but the 1A No. 11 Trailblazers battled back and scored towards the end of the game. Freshman Olivia Morrison played a free kick to senior Lily Snyder, who put it in the net.
University is 5-3-2 for the season and plays at Sheridan on Tuesday.
