Girls soccer: ‘Rocks win all-county game

In a Monday all-county girls soccer game, Westfield beat Class 2A No. 18 Hamilton Heights 5-0.
Nicole Burkett scored two goals for the Shamrocks, with Annabelle O’Hair, Cassandra Melnick and Allison Bullock all getting one goal.

Carmel, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A, defeated North Central 4-1 to remain undefeated in Metropolitan Conference play.
The Greyhounds led 1-0 at halftime, thanks to a goal by Katie Soderstrom. The Panthers tied the game in the second half with a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, but Carmel put in three more goals after that. Soderstrom found the back of the net two more times, and Naomi Mann scored with six minutes left.
Tess Nihill assisted Soderstrom’s first goal, Speidel got the assist for Katie’s second goal, and Ashley Witucki and Emma Antoine provided a double assist for her third goal. Taylor Rudin made the assist on Mann’s goal.
Emily Melchi had four saves.
“It was good for us to face and overcome some adversity which should help us in the state tournament,” said Carmel coach Frank Dixon.

Sheridan fell at North Montgomery 3-1 on Tuesday.
The Blackhawks fell behind 2-0 early, but got one of them back seven minutes before halftime. Makenna Hammack found the back of the net unassisted. The second half was back and forth, with Sheridan conceding a late goal.
Player of the game honors went to Audrey Reed, who worked hard to generate offense.
The Blackhawks will play their Senior Night game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, hosting Crawfordsville.

Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 4 in 3A, cruised past Avon 4-0 on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, the Golden Eagles got on the board when senior Cassidy Lindley found sophomore Anna Schultheis for a goal. Lindley then scored two goals, and senior Elle Vuotto got the fourth score. Quincy McMahon assisted GC’s last three goals.

University cruised past Greenwood Christian Academy 9-0 in a Monday game.
Tessa Hudson put in four goals for the Trailblazers. Halle Von Ah, Lilly Fair, Hallie Harrison, Mackenzie Allen and Lily Snyder all scored one goal. Von Ah, Allen, Lillian Klemsz and Brooke Toombs each handed out one assist.
Fair made four save for University, with Allen getting two saves.
