Girls soccer: Millers, Royals get wins, set up HCC title showdown

The Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls soccer championship will come down to one game next week.
Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern both won their HCC games Wednesday to set up this showdown. The Class 3A No. 3 Millers took care of Franklin Central 2-0 at their White River Elementary School field, while the 3A No. 1 Royals beat Zionsville 4-2 in a home game.
Noblesville scored both of its goals in the first half. Carly Hudnall got the first score six minutes into the game, then Sydney Anderson found the back of the net in the 19th minute. With the win, the Millers improved to 5-0-1 in the conference and are now 8-1-3 overall.
Southeastern scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of the game. Claire Wilkinson got the first two, assisted by Olivia Smith and Ava Keaffaber. Layla Brown put the third goal in, with Taylor Pozzebon assisting.
The Royals played their second team for a majority of the first half, and did give up a goal to make the halftime score 3-1. The starters came back for the second half, and got HSE’s fourth goal about 15 minutes into the half, with Brown scoring on a Keaffaber assist. Zionsville scored its second goal on a free kick with 40 seconds left.
Southeastern’s co-players of the game were Brown and Wilkinson.
The Royals are 6-0 in the HCC and 12-1-1 overall. Southeastern will travel to Noblesville for what is now the conference championship game, which takes place next Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Fishers finished up HCC play on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Avon.
The 3A No. 11 Tigers scored their goal in the game’s 41st minute, with Maya Turner finding the back of the net. Fishers completed conference play with a 3-3-1 record, and is 6-3-1 overall.

Guerin Catholic, ranked No. 17 in 3A, played to a 0-0 tie with 2A No. 2 Cathedral on Wednesday.
Bailey Cappella recorded the clean sheet for the Golden Eagles, who are 4-4-2 for the season.
