Girls soccer: Millers prevail in showdown, Blackhawks win HHC contest

In a showdown between two of Class 3A’s top three teams, Noblesville beat Carmel 3-1 Monday at the Millers’ Hallmark Orthodontics Soccer Complex.

Second-ranked Noblesville got on the board first, as Meredith Tippner booted in a goal during the 35th minute. That was the only score of the first half. The third-ranked Greyhounds’ Kate Klinginsmith tied the game in the 45th minute with a long free kick.

But the Millers got the lead back five minutes later. Sadie Black sent a free kick towards the net, then Tippner headed the ball to Atley Pittman, who put it in the net. Pittman scored a second goal with 24 seconds left in the game, off another assist by Tippner.

Noblesville is 10-0-2 and plays Penn Saturday at Newton Park in Lakeville. Carmel is 8-3-2 and hosts Plainfield at 7 p.m. tonight.

Sheridan defeated Eastern 9-0 Monday in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game.

Sadie Timme scored four goals for the Blackhawks, while Cecilia Timme scored two. Avery Hills, Abby Dallas and Brielle Garner all scored one.

Sheridan is 3-0 in conference play and travels to Rossville Thursday for its HHC finale. The Hawks are 9-4-1 overall.

Hamilton Southeastern, 3A’s No. 1-ranked team, beat Pendleton Heights 6-0 on Monday.

Sydney May scored two goals for the Royals. Addison McClain, Anna Tittle, Gracie Pyle and Sloane May each scored one goal. Margaux Hanning made two assists and Blair Satterfield had one assist.

Southeastern is 12-0-2 and hosts Zionsville at 7:45 p.m. tonight to finish Hoosier Crossroads Conference play.

Guerin Catholic got a big win over Cathedral on Monday.

The Class 2A No. 6 Golden Eagles upset the 3A No. 5 Irish 1-0 at the Eagles Nest. Mia Gatz scored the Guerin Catholic goal, off an assist by Kylie Harrison.

The Golden Eagles are 6-3-3 and play tonight at 3A No. 9 Center Grove. The game starts at 7:15 p.m.

Fishers, ranked No. 20 in 3A, lost to 2A No. 5 Bishop Chatard 3-1 on Monday.

Elise May scored the Tigers’ goal, assisted by Lauren Faulkner.

Fishers is 7-5-2 and plays at Avon tonight to finish HCC play. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
