The Noblesville girls soccer team got its first win of the season on Wednesday, defeating Brebeuf Jesuit 1-0 in a battle of highly-ranked teams.
The Class 3A No. 3-ranked Millers scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the game. Keely Hoopingarner got the goal off an assist by Jenna Chatterton. Noblesville then held the 3A No. 4 Braves scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Noblesville is now 1-0-1 for the season and travels to West Lafayette on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
Hamilton Southeastern won its opener on Wednesday, beating new Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Franklin Central 4-0.
The 3A No. 5 Royals weathered the rainy and slippery conditions, scoring two goals in less than seven minutes. Layla Brown got the first goal off an assist by Maddie Bellaver, then Claire Wilkinson scored, with Ava Keaffaber making the assist.
Taylor Pozzebon got a goal six minutes into the second half, with Bellaver making her second assist of the night. Ashlyn Freeman completed the scoring with a goal with 13 minutes left in the game.
“Twenty girls played significant minutes tonight,” said HSE coach Greg Davidson. The coach said Pozzebon earned Player of the Game honors with stellar midfield play and a goal.
The Royals will play at the South Bend St. Joseph Invitational on Friday, starting with a game against two-time defending state champion Penn.
