Girls soccer: Golden Eagles cruise in CCC opener

The Guerin Catholic girls soccer team won its Circle City Conference opener on Thursday, sailing past Heritage Christian 7-0.
Senior Anna Schultheis scored two goals for the Golden Eagles, while five other players scored one goal: Hailey Abel, Evi Bestard, Calli McGee, Lily Snyder and Emersen Jennings.
Guerin Catholic is now 2-1 and will host Brebeuf Jesuit at 5 p.m. Saturday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader.

University won a windy game with Scecina 5-0 on Thursday.
Whitney Freeman and Tessa Hudson both scored two goals, with Meggie Tanona adding one goal. Goalkeeper Lilly Fair and the Trailblazers defense recorded their second clean sheet of the season.
University is 2-1-1 and hosts Muncie Burris Saturday morning in its first Pioneer Conference game of the season.

Sheridan lost 1-0 to Shortridge on Thursday.
Coach Brian Prange, who has returned as coach of the Blackhawks, is developing the young team. Sheridan is 0-2 and plays at Taylor on Tuesday.
