The Carmel girls soccer team picked up a milestone win on Monday.
The Greyhounds defeated Metropolitan Conference rival Ben Davis 5-0 in their MIC opener. It was the first win of the season for Class 3A No. 1 Carmel and also the 500th career win for ‘Hounds coach Frank Dixon.
“I am so lucky to do something I love for such a long time at a great school,” said Dixon. “I’ve always been supported by the school administration while having truly gifted assistant coaches but the most important factor in my success has been the hundreds of fantastic student-athletes who have taken the field and won all those games for Carmel High School.”
The Greyhounds led 3-0 at halftime. Goals were scored by Brooke Bailey, Riley Pennington, Cassidy Eckstein and Emma Antoine. (The Giants also had an “own goal.”) Jessica Greven, Kelsie James and Emily Roper each made one assist.
Carmel is now 1-0-1 for the season. The ‘Hounds host the Carmel Invite on Saturday, with games against 2A No. 2 Cathedral at 9 a.m. and 3A No. 17 Fishers at 7 p.m.
Fishers won its Hoosier Crossroads Conference opener Saturday over new opponent Franklin Central 4-1.
The Tigers scored their first goal in the second minute, when Taryn McFarland found Ellen Stump for the goal. Sophomore Kaysey Castro got Fishers’ second goal, scoring from the top of the box.
After the Flashes scored their lone goal, Stump scored again in the beginning of the second half, with Lindsay Elick putting in the Tigers’ fourth goal.
Fishers is 2-0 and plays at 7 p.m. tonight at 3A No. 13 Zionsville in another HCC game.
