Girls lacrosse: Shamrocks reach Class 1A state final

The Westfield girls lacrosse team advanced to the Class 1A state championship game after winning its semi-final over Evansville Central Friday night at the Indiana Girls Lacrosse Association’s state tournament at Warren Central.
The Shamrocks won 16-7. They will take on Heritage Christian, winner of the other semi-final over Crown Point, at 4:30 p.m. today in the 1A state final. That game follows the 2A state championship contest between Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern.
2A SEMI-FINAL STATS
Here are stats for Thursday night’s Class 2A semi-final games.
Carmel beat Cathedral 14-9 in the first game. Maddie McGarty led the scoring with six goals, followed by Hannah Kim with five. Julia Cherubini, Anna Dumke and Sophia Hanna all added one goal. Cherubini handed out three assists and Kim had one. Kim also had seven draw controls.
Hamilton Southeastern won the second game 18-6 over Castle. Caitlin Carter and Chloe Szot both scored six goals, with Stella Fisher and Ellie Nawa both putting in two. Olivia Schenck and Ashley Springer each had one goal. Schenck led the assists with four, while Carter handed out two. Samantha Borgert, Fisher, Alexis Green, Jessie Lyons and Nawa each had one assist. Jenna Jenkins had seven draw controls while Carter collected four ground balls.
