The first round of the Indiana Girls Lacrosse Association’s state playoffs began on Friday.

The two Hamilton County teams that hosted games got easy wins. Second seed Guerin Catholic cruised past No. 15 Park Tudor 14-2, while third seed Hamilton Southeastern beat No. 14 Evansville Memorial 22-8. Both teams will host games in next week’s quarterfinals.

The Golden Eagles led 6-0 after the first quarter, with Gabby Deer and Jane Cline both scoring two goals. Guerin Catholic went up 8-0 at halftime and enjoyed an 11-1 lead after three quarters.

“We’ve had a couple of days off here, so it was good to get out and actually get playing again,” said GC coach Joe Bellflower. “We had a good first quarter. We looked pretty good.”

Cline led the scoring with four goals, while Deer and Camy Carter both scored three. Claire Flannagan, Caroline Ford, Ella Capofari and Corrine Karlander all scored one goal.

The Royals roared out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter of their game. Sarah Gastineau and Reagan Janes both scored three goals in that period, with Emma Reichert scoring two.

“It was good to have good energy tonight, and hopefully we can carry that through for the next couple of weeks,” said Southeastern head coach Steffi Fleagle.

The Tigers made a comeback in the second quarter, but late goals by Gastineau and Reece Bradley helped keep Southeastern ahead 14-6 at halftime. The Royals cruised through the second half, leading 19-7 after the third quarter.

Janes, Gastineau and Reichert all finished with five goals, while Bradley scored four. Anna Silver had two goals, with Evelyn Armstrong and Edie Fisher both getting one goal and two assists. Silver, Reese Bradley, Olivia Bradley, Gastineau and Reichert all had one assist.

“We like to assist quite a bit,” said HSE offensive coordinator John Kim. “Our offense facilitates a lot of off-ball passing and cutting and so we share the ball very well.”

No. 12 Noblesville played at No. 5 Bishop Chatard, with the Trojans beating the Millers 15-5. Tenth-seeded Westfield played at No. 7 Center Grove Friday night, results were unavailable at press time. No. 1 Carmel hosts No. 16 Penn at 11:30 a.m. this morning.
