The Indiana Girls Lacrosse playoffs began on Friday.

Carmel, the top-seeded team in Class 2A, opened the tournament by beating Fishers 14-0 in an all-county game at the Greyhounds’ Murray Stadium. The ‘Hounds had a very balanced attack, as only one player scored multiple goals: Tori Tomalia had three goals.

Other Carmel players scoring goals were Sophie Mock, Breckin Hare, Nora Rafferty, Molly Cleary, Peyton Henney, Anna Dumke, AnnMarie Mcgill, Evalyn Bellotti, Reese Kettle, Ellie Espey and Jacqueline Mabry.

“You want to see them getting involved,” said Greyhounds coach Josh Miller. The coach said that if a team relies on one scorer, it becomes too one-dimensional.

“You don’t want to see that,” said Miller. “We did spread the ball pretty well today. Had a lot of assists and goals too.”

Tomalia had five draw controls, while Mock collected three ground balls.

Noblesville also advanced in the playoffs by beating Bishop Chatard 21-9. Dates and times for the next round of the playoffs will be announced later.

Kayli Gerka led the Tigers in scoring with four goals. Alaina Severs added three goals, followed by two each for Alexa Denney and Mackenzy Slimak. Amy Cooke, Elise Owings and Madeline Poppe all scored one. Nabeelah Aregbe, Selsa Mertami, Sophia Ready, Anna Mayer and Maddie Fahner were successful in limiting the Orioles from scoring. Aregbe had five ground balls, while Gerka had 14 draw controls.
