Hamilton County girls golf teams make up half of the top eight positions after the first round of the IHSAA state finals, which took place Friday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
Carmel is currently in third place with a team score of 316. The Greyhounds are one stroke behind Homestead’s 315 in the battle for second place. Evansville North holds a comfortable lead after the first round with a 305.
Carmel freshman Michaela Headlee is tied for fourth place with a 76. Headlee made two birdies in her round. Senior Katie Kuc carded a 78, also with two birdies. The Greyhounds’ three other golfers, senior Sydney Longstreth, junior Ava Hedrick and freshman Claire Swathwood, all made one birdie.
Westfield is in fourth place, totaling 324 for its first round. Freshman Samantha Brown leads the Shamrocks with a 78 and made two birdies. Senior Cate Jensen had one birdie.
Hamilton Southeastern finished the first round in sixth place with a 331. Junior Yanah Ralston and senior Grace Dubec both had 82s to lead the Royals. Junior Marissa Spreitzer drained two birdies, while sophomore Amber Luttrell and senior Ashley Marcinko both made one.
Noblesville sits in eighth place with a 349. Sophomore Caroline Whallon leads the Millers with a 78; she made two birdies in her round. Seniors Sarah Brenneman and Taylor Caldwell both had one.
Guerin Catholic junior Christina Pfefferkorn carded a 78 on Friday, draining two birdies. Fishers junior Lilly McVay scored a 94.
The second round of the state finals begins at 8:30 a.m. this morning at Prairie View, although there may be a weather delay if the conditions are too cold. All four county teams will start the second round off the first tee: Noblesville between 8:57 and 9:33 a.m., Westfield and Southeastern between 9:42 and 10:18 a.m., and Carmel between 10:27 and 11:03 a.m.
Pfefferkorn starts off the first tee at 8:48 a.m., while McVay begins off the 10th tee at 10:45 a.m.
