NOBLESVILLE – Consistency is a good thing, especially with the state tournament around the corner.

The Noblesville girls golf team put together another consistent performance last Saturday as it hosted the Courtney Cox Cole Invitational at Harbour Trees. The Millers won the tournament as their Gold team scored 312.

Carmel’s Sophie Mock was the meet medalist with 72. (Richie Hall)

Noblesville’s top scorers were all within shouting distance of each other. Olivia Fowler led the Millers with a 74, which tied her for second place individually. Josie Kelley added a 75, good for fourth place. Karis Shields scored 80 (tying her for seventh place) and Olivia Anderson added 83. Presley White scored 85.

“I thought they played well,” said Noblesville coach Justin Werkley. “The course was difficult, but I thought we played well. We hung in there. Every round is different.”

The Millers have two more meets this week, starting with a three-team match at Chatham Hills with Carmel and Westfield on Tuesday. Noblesville then travels to West Chase in Brownsburg on Wednesday for a dual with the Bulldogs, then host the sectional at Harbour Trees next Monday, Sept. 23.

“Anytime we can get out and compete on this course, it helps us prepare for the sectional,” said Werkley.

Hamilton Southeastern, which also plays at Harbour Trees for the sectional, scored 327 to take second place as a team. Janelle Garcia scored 76, making her the fifth-place individual.

Carmel scored 328 to take third as a team. The Greyhounds had the meet medalist: senior Sophie Mock totaled a 72, which she called a “really solid” performance.

“It was a bit of a rough start, but once I got more comfortable with my irons, I was able to stick it a little closer to the pin and was able to just make some putts,” said Mock.

Maddie Headlee scored 74, putting her in a tie for second place.

“I think it’s good because we can push each other,” said Mock. “And it’s just nice, and you have someone else that has your back on the course and you can be confident in their play.”

Westfield scored 344, while Guerin Catholic totaled 358. Ali Scott posted 78, good for sixth place. Fishers’ Kendall Manion, Shields and Noblesville White’s Peyton Kauzlick all scored 80, tying them for eighth place.
