The level of play among the top girls golf teams in Indiana is so close, that any given team can win on any given day.
On Saturday, it was Columbus North’s turn. The Bull Dogs placed first at the Roncalli Invitational at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis. Zionsville was second, then there were three Hamilton County teams: Westfield placed third, Carmel fourth and Guerin Catholic fifth.
Jocelyn Bruch and Adrienne Montalone each had 75s to lead the Shamrocks. Cailyn Henderson added a 77.
“We had a solid day today,” said Westfield coach Trevor Neu. “The girls grinded all day to shoot another good score but it was just short of what we needed to win today. Columbus North and Zionsville are both great teams and days like today you just have to tip your cap to them because they played better golf today.
“One thing I am proud of is that we shot 10 strokes better in our second 9 today. We have challenged the girls to finish strong so that is nice to see.”
Nina Hecht scored 78 for the Greyhounds, while Katie Kuc carded a 79.
“It was a very tough day for us,” said Carmel coach Kelly Kluesner. “We struggled with our short games and some big numbers.”
Gabby Gilrowski led the Golden Eagles with an 81.
