Zink sinks an ace to help No. 5 Southeastern find victory over No. 1 Carmel
A dual meet Prairie View Golf Club turned into a big day for Hamilton Southeastern’s Cora Zink on Tuesday.
The senior made a hole in one during the No. 5-ranked Royals’ meet with No. 1 Carmel. Zink aced the 150-yard, par 3 Hole No. 4. Not only was it an achievement for Zink, it also lifted Southeastern to a win.
The Royals scored a team total of 160 at the nine-hole dual, the first nine-hole match for both teams this season. Carmel scored a 162, so Zink’s ace made the difference.
Ella Bui and Janelle Garcia led Southeastern, as they both carded 39s. Zink and Lauren Stewart each scored 41s, followed by Annabelle Willard with a 45 and Makenna Watson with 49.
The Greyhounds’ Michaela Headlee was the meet medalist, totaling a 38. Claire Swathwood followed with a 40, Ava Nguyen scored a 41, Kamryn Williams and Sophie Mock both had 43s and Maya Berglund rounded out the lineup with a 47.
Carmel travels to Harbour Trees today to take on No. 4-ranked Noblesville in a 4:30 p.m. dual meet. The Royals are next in action Saturday at the Lapel Invitational.
Westfield, which has risen to No. 2 in the state, won a three-team meet with No. 4 Noblesville and Guerin Catholic Tuesday at Harbour Trees.
The Shamrocks totaled 149, followed by the host Millers with 151 and the Golden Eagles with 175. Sami Hanavan, Samantha Brown and Addi Kooi all scored 36s, while Claire Thompson completed the scoring with a 41.
Noblesville’s Caroline Whallon was the meet medalist, scoring a 34. Jordan Adam, Karis Shields and Ally Hutchinson all added 39s. Other Millers scores were Josie Kelley 40, Olivia Anderson 44, Presley White 44 and Savannah Munson 45.
Guerin Catholic picked up a tournament win Monday, triumphing at the Cathedral Irish Invitational at Maple Creek Golf Club.
The Golden Eagles scored a 355. Brebeuf Jesuit also finished with a 355, but Guerin Catholic won on the fifth-player score. Izzy Pinon led GC with an 81, which was good for individual runner-up honors. Sarah Rigg added an 89, followed by Ali Scott 92, Sydney Delagrange 93 and Gracie Navarro 98.
The Golden Eagles had a second team at the tournament, and it scored a 488. Golfers in that group were Avery Wall 108, Maris Bulger 118, Annie Murphy 124 and Mallory Aigotti 138.
Westfield sent its Green team to Maple Creek, and it finished third with a 358. Sami Hanavan led the Shamrocks with an 86, followed by Sadie Edwards 87, Sophie Thompson 92, Anna McKeown 92 and Macy McAlister 103.
