The Hamilton Southeastern girls basketball team beat Fishers 47-34 last Friday at the Fishers Event Center to win the Mudsock Trophy.
The Tigers jumped out to an 11-3 lead after the first quarter, with Riley Schellhammer scoring eight, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Royals came back in the second period, cutting Fishers’ lead to 15-13 by halftime.
Southeastern took the lead in the third quarter and held a 29-26 advantage after three. Maya Makalusky got six points during that period. The Royals’ defense took over in the fourth, outscoring the Tigers 18-8.
Makalusky scored 12 points for Southeastern, with Kennedy Holman scoring 10. Kayla Stidham added eight points, including two 3s.
Schellhammer scored 17 points to lead the Tigers, making four triples. Nevaeh Dickman totaled 12 points.
The Royals are 13-0 for the season and also improved to 4-0 in Hoosier Crossroads Conference play. Southeastern will travel to New Castle on Friday for the Henry Community Health Hall of Fame Classic and will be one of three unbeaten teams participating. The Royals play South Knox, the No. 1 Class 2A team at 14-0, in a 12:45 p.m. first-round game.
No. 1-ranked and defending 4A state champion Lawrence Central (13-0) plays Homestead (11-1) in the opening game at 11 a.m. The consolation game is set for 6 p.m., with the championship at 7:45 p.m.
Fishers is 2-2 in conference play and 9-5 overall. The Tigers travel to Washington on Friday to play Evansville Central.
