Girls basketball roundup: Westfield takes down 3A No. 1 Dragons

Westfield took down one of the top teams in the state on Wednesday, beating Class 3A No. 1 Silver Creek 45-35 at the Paul Loggan Memorial Invitational at North Central.
The Dragons led 10-8 after the first quarter, but the Shamrocks outscored Silver Creek in each of the next three periods. Westfield pulled ahead 17-15 by halftime, then extended its lead to 29-22 after three quarters. A 16-point fourth period sealed the win for the ‘Rocks; it was their eighth straight victory.
Alyssa Crockett reached double-double status with 13 points and 10 rebounds; she also made four blocked shots. Olivia Robey added 11 points and Gigi Eldredge scored nine. Chesney Tebbe and Jessica Castor both pulled eight rebounds.
Westfield is now 11-3 and plays at Anderson Saturday.

Carmel gets MIC victory

Carmel picked up a Metropolitan Conference victory on Tuesday, beating Lawrence Central 73-26 at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Class 4A No. 8 Greyhounds were in control from the start, leaping out to a 25-6 advantage over the Bears after the first quarter. Carmel held a 41-14 lead at halftime, then kept the pressure on in the third period, holding LC to only two points for the entire quarter.
Hannah Lach had a superb performance, scoring 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Emily Roper reached double-double status with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Tori Tomalia hit two 3s on her way to 10 points. Laura Valiente handed out four assists.
The Greyhounds are now 2-2 in MIC play and 8-3 overall. Carmel travels to Penn on Saturday for an afternoon game with the 4A No. 3 Kingsmen.

Sheridan gets third straight victory

The Sheridan girls basketball team won its third consecutive game on Wednesday, beating Frankfort 61-30 at Hobbs Memorial Gym.
The Blackhawks sailed out to a 14-2 lead after the first quarter, outscoring the Hot Dogs in each period. Sheridan led 33-10 at halftime and 46-22 by the end of the third quarter.
Allie Delph scored 20 points for the ‘Hawks, with Berkley Williams and Taylor Bates both adding 11 points.
Sheridan is 3-1 and travels to Rossville on Saturday for its first Hoosier Heartland Conference game of the season.
