While there are many familiar names who will be playing for the Noblesville girls basketball team this season, one thing is still true: The Millers are a young team.
There are only two seniors listed on the varsity roster, along with three juniors. But that group of five also includes three of Noblesville’s leading scorers from last season – including one who is one of the top seniors in the state.
That would be Emily Kiser, who averaged a double-double for the Millers as a junior last year. Kiser scored 19.4 points and pulled 11.6 rebounds per game. Kiser has been making news throughout the last few months, first by committing to the University of Michigan over the summer, then by helping Noblesville to a volleyball sectional championship this fall.
Next up are two juniors. Maddie Knight and Mallory Johnson contributed 9.0 points per game last season. Olivia Morales is the Millers’ other senior, while Madison Whetro is a returning junior.
“We are excited about this season,” said Noblesville coach Donna Buckley. “The girls are working hard and getting better every day. We hope to be aggressive on both ends of the floor for 32 minutes. We will be as good as our defense and rebounding. That is something we are working hard to get better at this season.”
Sophomores to look out for on the Millers roster include Abby Haley, who played in the majority of Noblesville’s games last season. Kailyn Ely, Anna Kiser, Devon Ray and Sarah Etchison are other sophomores in the group, with Etchison and Ray swinging between varsity and junior varsity.
The Millers open their season Thursday at Lawrence North, then play their home opener next Saturday against Fort Wayne Snider.
