Girls basketball: Panthers hand Greyhounds season’s first loss

The Carmel girls basketball team lost its first game of the season on Friday, in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown at North Central.
The Greyhounds, Class 4A’s top-ranked team, fell to the 4A No. 2 Panthers 66-58. Carmel led 15-13 after the first quarter and 32-27 at halftime. But North Central took the lead in the third period, then put the game away with a 23-point fourth quarter.
Tomi Taiwo led the Greyhounds’ scoring with 19 points, including five 3-pointers. Amy Dilk and Jasmine McWilliams both reached double-double status: Dilk scored 13 points and handed out 11 assists, while McWilliams added 11 points and pulled 10 rebounds. Dilk also had six rebounds.
Carmel is now 13-1 for the season and is 3-1 in the Metropolitan Conference. The ‘Hounds are now off until Wednesday. Dec. 27, when it plays 4A No. 7 Bedford North Lawrence in an afternoon home game.
