Girls basketball: ‘Hawks power to fifth straight victory

Sheridan powered to its fifth straight win on Tuesday, overwhelming Crawfordsville 57-18 in a home game at Hobbs Memorial Gymnasium.
The Blackhawks shut out the Athenians in the first quarter, leading 17-0 at the end of the period. Sheridan continued to roll in the next two quarters, going up 37-5 by halftime and 53-11 after three periods.
Allie Delph scored 12 points to lead the ‘Hawks, while Taylor Bates scored 11. Chaney Smith added nine points, Lillie Dickerson contributed eight and Sierra Duke scored five.
Sheridan is 5-1 for the season. Tuesday’s game was the first of a five-game homestand for the Blackhawks, and that continues Saturday when Sheridan hosts Tri-Central in a Hoosier Heartland Conference game.

Golden Eagles get bounce-back win

Guerin Catholic bounced back from a Monday loss with a Tuesday win at Shelbyville.
The Golden Eagles fell to Lebanon 57-47 Monday at the Eagles Nest, then made a quick turnaround with their trip southeast to play the Golden Bears. At Shelbyville, Guerin Catholic toughed out a 52-47 win, snapping a four-game losing streak.
Katie Koger led GC against the Golden Bears, scoring 20 points. Kathryn Loso added 13 points, Aliyah Dorsey had nine and Hannah Weitzel chipped in six points. A solid defensive effort in the second half clinched the victory for the Golden Eagles.
Guerin Catholic is now 5-6 and hosts Bishop Chatard Friday in a Circle City Conference game.
