Girls basketball: Greyhounds get MIC victory

Carmel got back on the winning track Friday, beating Center Grove 49-31 in a Metropolitan Conference game at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
The Class 4A No. 9 Greyhounds outscored the Trojans in each quarter and never allowed them more than nine points in a period. Carmel led 11-7 after the first quarter and 26-16 at halftime. Kate Clarke, who had missed a few games, returned to the court on Friday and had 13 points in the first half.
Clarke wound up as the leading scorer with 24 points, going 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Clarke also led the rebounds with eight, followed by Emily Roper with seven and Riley Pennington with five. Roper also dished out five assists.
The Greyhounds are 3-2 in MIC play and 9-5 overall. Carmel hosts Brownsburg on Tuesday.

‘Rocks win streak reaches 10

Westfield ran its win streak to 10 games in a row Friday, easily beating Hoosier Crossroads Conference opponent Franklin Central 59-29 at The Rock.
The Shamrocks were in control from the start, leading 23-3 by the end of the first quarter. Westfield then held a 37-15 advantage at halftime, led 44-23 after three periods, then held the Flashes to six points in the fourth.
Alyssa Crockett earned another double-double, scoring 23 points and pulling 11 rebounds. Crockett also made four steals. Olivia Robey had five rebounds and five steals, with Gigi Eldredge collecting five rebounds.
Westfield is 3-1 in HCC play and 13-3 overall. The Shamrocks travel to Hamilton Heights this afternoon.
