Westfield got off to a quick start at Fishers and led at halftime, but the Tigers cooled the Shamrocks down in the final two quarters to come back for a 32-30 win.
The Friday night Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls basketball tilt had a little bit of a different twist. After Westfield’s football team won its regional game last week, this game got moved to a varsity only game at 6 p.m. This allowed time for the Westfield girls to get back home to cheer on their football squad to a semi-state victory.
The ‘Rocks got off to a quick start and led 13-6 after one quarter. With a low scoring second that Fishers took 6-5, Westfield still led by a half dozen at halftime, 18-12.
The Tigers came out in the second half and were able to outscore the Shamrocks 10-6 in both the third and fourth quarters.
Pushing past the ‘Rocks in the final two frames helped Fishers come back for the win.
Lindsey Van Dyke tied for game-high honors with 11. Samantha Price followed with eight, along with Aubrey Crockett (5), Meg Hamilton (4) and MaKayla Hatcher (2) all contributing.
Westfield (2-3, 0-1 HCC) has now dropped three in a row. The Shamrocks have their second consecutive road game at Pike (2-1) on Tuesday.
Freshman Riley Schellhammer also tied for game-high in points with 11, knocking down a pair of 3’s and making 5 of 6 free throws. Nevaeh Dickman had 10 and Allison Scheu seven to help pace the Tiger comeback.
Fishers (4-2, 1-0 HCC) won its second in a row. The Tigers will stay in the HCC and visit Zionsville (2-2, 0-1 HCC) on Tuesday. The Eagles lost on the road last night at Avon, 68-35.
